The 905 nm lidar ceilometer measures cloud and aerosol profiles.

Lidars are much more sensitive to small particles than radars. They can detect aerosols such as pollution or dust particles in the lower parts of the atmosphere. They also detect clouds and in particular are more sensitive to water clouds than radars.

The latest results from the ceilometer can be found on the Chilbolton weather web.

To see measurements taken with the IR lidar ceilometer look in the research section of the site.
